Every coin is a Bitcoin Rune.
Timechain is a pump.fun launchpad. Each coin trades on Solana at Solana speed, priced in Bitcoin, and is carved into the Timechain as a real Rune. Issue on Bitcoin, trade on Solana. These docs explain every part of it, from the launch form to the bridge.

What Timechain is
A launchpad where a coin is born on pump.fun and on Bitcoin at once.
Back to the topTimechain is a pump.fun launchpad where every coin is also a real Bitcoin Rune. You launch a coin with a name, a ticker and a picture. It starts trading on pump.fun right away, paired with WBTC, so its price is quoted in Bitcoin. Right after launch the same coin is etched on Bitcoin as a Rune, and holders can move it 1:1 between Solana and their own Bitcoin wallet.
The name comes from Bitcoin itself. In the pre-release Bitcoin source code of 2008, Satoshi called the chain of blocks the timechain. Every Timechain coin leaves its mark there.
Trade on Solana
pump.fun's bonding curve, Solana speed, a price in Bitcoin. Pay with SOL.
Issue on Bitcoin
A real Rune with a fixed supply, its picture and details inscribed on chain.
Move between them
A 1:1 bridge run by a canister on the Internet Computer, with no person holding the key.
Runes went live at Bitcoin block 840,000, in April 2024, at the fourth halving. They are Bitcoin's own fungible tokens: its memecoins, written into Bitcoin transactions and secured by Bitcoin's own miners.
Bitcoin is slow to trade
A block about every 10 minutes, and no pools. To sell a Rune you list it, wait for a buyer, then wait for a block. Memecoins live on speed.
Names are raced
A Rune name is first come, forever, and short names are rationed over time. A Rune also carries almost no metadata: a name and one symbol character.
Timechain trades on Solana
Each coin trades on pump.fun in the same second you buy, priced in Bitcoin through WBTC.
And issues on Bitcoin
Bitcoin assigns the Rune's name, so there is no race and no wait. The brand lives in the parent inscription: picture, name, ticker and the Solana mint.
- 1Connect a Solana walletPhantom, Solflare or Backpack. Keep some SOL in it for the launch quote.
- 2Fill in the launch formName, ticker, picture, an optional description and links, and an optional first buy.
- 3Read the quote and approveOne price in SOL covers pump.fun's coin creation, the launch's Solana gas and the Rune fee. One approval in your wallet.
- 4Share the coin pageTrading starts on pump.fun at once. The coin page shows the Rune being etched, then its Rune ID and links once Bitcoin confirms it.
- 5Take it to Bitcoin, if you likeHolders bridge to their own Taproot address in Xverse, UniSat or OKX, and back again.
Launches open when $TIMECHAIN is live. Until then you can explore the board, read these docs and get your wallets ready.
Solana: launching and trading
Phantom, Solflare, Backpack and other wallets that support the Solana wallet standard. Every launch and trade is signed by you, in your wallet.
Bitcoin: holding the Rune
Xverse, UniSat or OKX. The bridge pays out to your own Taproot address (it starts with bc1p). Connect the wallet to fill the address in, or paste it yourself.
You never need a Bitcoin wallet to launch or trade. It only matters when you move a coin to Bitcoin or back.
- Name and ticker
- What people see on pump.fun, on Timechain and in the Rune's parent inscription. They are yours to choose; two coins may share a name.
- Picture
- Shown on the coin page and inscribed on Bitcoin in the Rune's parent inscription.
- Description and links
- Optional: a few lines, a website, X and Telegram.
- First buy
- Optional: buy your own coin in the launch transaction, before anyone else can.
The quote
Before you approve, Timechain shows one price in SOL. It covers everything your launch costs:
Coin creation
pump.fun's own cost to create the coin.
Solana gas
The network fees and account rent for the launch.
The Rune fee
The Bitcoin network fee to etch the Rune and inscribe its picture.
The launcher pays for their own launch. A quote is valid for a short time, because Bitcoin fees move; if it runs out, the form fetches a fresh one. If Bitcoin fees rise above what the quote paid for, the etch waits for fees to come back down rather than overspend.
The launch also locks the coin's fee split on chain in the same approval. See Fees.
Each coin trades on pump.fun's bonding curve with WBTC as its pair, so every price, chart and market cap is in Bitcoin terms. When the curve fills, the coin graduates to a pool the way every pump.fun coin does.
Pay with SOL
You do not need WBTC. Buy with SOL and it is converted to WBTC in the same transaction.
Sell to SOL
Sells come back to you the same way, in one transaction you sign.
Anywhere pump.fun trades
The coin is a standard pump.fun coin, so it trades on Timechain, on pump.fun and in Solana terminals.
Trades pay pump.fun's own trading fee. A share of it, the coin's creator fee, goes to the coin's holders and to $TIMECHAIN. See Fees.
Right after launch, the coin is etched on Bitcoin as a Rune. The etching writes a Runestone (the Runes protocol's data) into a Bitcoin transaction, with a parent inscription that holds the coin's picture, its name and ticker, and its Solana mint address. That inscription is how a Bitcoin wallet or explorer knows which coin the Rune is.
- Name
- Assigned by Bitcoin: a reserved name, like a contract address, for example
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA•BDOZNDJIIIHD. There is no name race and no waiting for a name to unlock. The brand lives in the metadata, so two coins can share a name, as on Solana. - Symbol
- One character, shown beside amounts in Bitcoin wallets.
- Rune ID
- The block and transaction of the etching, for example
972111:121. - Supply
- Fixed at the etching and equal to the coin's supply on Solana. Nobody can mint more, on either chain.
- Where it sits
- The whole supply is etched straight into the coin's own custody address. See Custody.
- Links
- The coin page links the Rune and its inscription on ordinals.com, and the etching transaction on mempool.space.
The coin page follows the etching: being etched, etched, then final once Bitcoin has added enough confirmations on top.
Each coin's Runes sit at the coin's own Bitcoin Taproot address. That address belongs to a canister: a program running on the Internet Computer. The canister signs with a key that is split across the nodes of the network, using threshold signatures. The full key never exists in one place.
No person holds the key
Not a Timechain team member, not a server. The key is shared across the network's nodes.
No backup key
The custody address is spent with the canister's key alone. There is no second path that unlocks after a delay.
It reads both chains itself
The canister reads Solana and Bitcoin directly before it moves anything. It does not take our server's word.
What the canister checks before it moves anything
- To Bitcoin: the tokens are locked in the bridge program on Solana, and Solana has finalized that lock.
- To Solana: the Runes arrived at your deposit address and Bitcoin has added enough confirmations, as counted by two independent Runes indexers that must agree.
- Every time: the coin's invariant still holds after the move (see The bridge), and the move fits the coin's daily cap.
To Bitcoin
- On the coin page, choose an amount and your Taproot address from Xverse, UniSat or OKX.
- Approve one transaction: the tokens lock in the bridge program on Solana, with a small SOL fee that covers the Bitcoin network fee of your payout, shown before you approve.
- The canister sends the same amount of the Rune from custody to your address.
To Solana
- On the coin page, get your own deposit address for that coin and your Solana wallet.
- Send the Rune to it from your Bitcoin wallet.
- After enough confirmations, the same amount is released from the bridge program to your Solana wallet.
- Lock and release only
- The bridge program on Solana can lock tokens and release locked tokens. It cannot create tokens.
- One release per output
- Each Bitcoin output can release tokens once. A deposit can never be counted twice.
- Daily caps
- Each coin has a daily cap on how much the bridge releases.
- Only the canister releases
- A release needs the canister's signature. Your deposit address is under the canister's key from the first block.
The bridge keeps one rule for every coin, which anyone can check:
How the Bitcoin side opens
The Bitcoin side opens in stages, each with its own release:
- EtchingEvery new coin is etched on Bitcoin as a Rune, held in custody, and shown on its coin page.
- Bridge to BitcoinNext: holders lock tokens on Solana and receive the Rune at their own Taproot address.
- Back to SolanaThen: holders deposit the Rune and receive the tokens in their Solana wallet.
Each coin page shows which directions are open for that coin.
The verify page runs its checks in your browser, straight against the chains:
Rebuild the address
It asks the canister for its public key and derives the coin's custody address itself.
Count the Runes
It reads how much of the Rune sits at that address.
Count the tokens
It reads the coin's supply, the bridge's locked balance and the burned amount on Solana.
Check the rule
Rune in custody must equal tokens circulating plus tokens burned on Solana.
It also shows the fee split each coin locked on Solana, so you can see where the coin's fees go.
- Launching
- The launcher pays their own launch: pump.fun's coin creation, the Solana gas and the Rune fee, in one SOL quote shown before approval.
- Trading
- pump.fun's own trading fee. Timechain adds nothing on top.
- Bridging to Bitcoin
- A SOL fee that covers the Bitcoin network fee of your payout, shown before approval.
The creator fee, split on chain
Part of pump.fun's trading fee is the coin's creator fee. At launch, pump.fun's fee sharing locks how it splits, on chain. Nobody can change that split afterwards, Timechain included.
80% to the coin's holders
Paid out in SOL to the people who hold the coin, weighted by how much each wallet holds and for how long. Pools and the bonding curve are left out, so the fees reach real holders. Moving a bag to another wallet restarts its clock. Very small shares carry over to a later payout. No action needed: payouts arrive in your wallet.
20% to the platform
15% of every coin’s creator fees buys and burns $TIMECHAIN and 5% runs Timechain. One platform wallet collects every coin's share, and its buys and burns are public on the proof page.
The holders' share is collected into a wallet for each coin that a third-party key provider (Privy) holds, so our server holds no key to it. Every collection and payout is booked in a public ledger and can be matched to Solana transactions.
$TIMECHAIN is Timechain's own token. The platform's 20% share of every coin's creator fee buys $TIMECHAIN on the market and burns it, so more trading on any Timechain coin means more $TIMECHAIN burned.
Launches open when $TIMECHAIN is live. The token launches first, so the very first coin's fees already have something to buy.
- Your wallet signs
- Every launch, trade and bridge request is a transaction you sign in your own wallet. Timechain never asks for your keys.
- No keys on the server
- Our server holds no private key that can move users' coins, the Runes in custody or the tokens in the bridge.
- Locked fee split
- Each coin's creator fee split is locked in pump.fun's fee sharing at launch, with its admin removed. Nobody can change it.
- The canister
- Holds each coin's Runes at a Taproot address spent by a threshold key split across Internet Computer nodes. Key-path only: no backup key. It reads Solana and Bitcoin itself, with two Runes indexers that must agree, and checks the invariant before every move.
- The bridge program
- A Solana program that can only lock and release, never create tokens. Releases need the canister's signature, each Bitcoin output releases once, and each coin has a daily cap.
- Upgrades
- Changes to the canister and the bridge program go through a multisig behind a public time lock. The verify page links the canister's public source.
- The page you load
- A strict Content Security Policy: the site runs only its own scripts, from its own origin.

Building a terminal, screener or indexer? The developers page has the keyed API with paging and a live stream.
Is the Rune a real Rune?
Yes. It is etched on Bitcoin under the Runes protocol, shows up in Runes-aware wallets such as Xverse, UniSat and OKX, and can be looked up on ordinals.com.
Why does my Rune have a long, odd name?
Bitcoin assigns it, like a contract address, so nobody races for names. The coin's name, ticker and picture live in the parent inscription.
Can two coins have the same name?
Yes, as on Solana. The Rune ID and the Solana mint tell them apart.
Do I need Bitcoin to buy a coin?
No. Pay with SOL; it is converted to WBTC in the same transaction.
Can anyone mint more?
No. The supply is fixed on Solana by pump.fun and on Bitcoin at the etching, and the bridge program can only lock and release.
Who can move the Runes in custody?
Only the canister, with a key split across Internet Computer nodes, and only after it has checked both chains and the invariant.
How long does bridging take?
To Bitcoin: Solana finality, then the next Bitcoin blocks. To Solana: enough Bitcoin confirmations on your deposit, then one Solana transaction.
Do I need to do anything to get holder rewards?
No action needed. Hold the coin in your wallet; payouts arrive in SOL.
- Timechain
- Satoshi's own word for the blockchain, in the pre-release Bitcoin source of 2008. Also this launchpad.
- Rune
- A fungible token on Bitcoin under the Runes protocol, live since block 840,000.
- Etching
- The Bitcoin transaction that creates a Rune: its name, symbol and supply.
- Runestone
- The Runes protocol's data inside a Bitcoin transaction, which etches or moves Runes.
- Parent inscription
- An inscription linked to a Rune at its etching. On Timechain it holds the picture, name, ticker and Solana mint.
- Taproot address
- A modern Bitcoin address starting with bc1p. Runes are sent to Taproot addresses.
- Sats
- Satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin: 100,000,000 sats make one bitcoin.
- Confirmations
- The number of Bitcoin blocks on top of a transaction's block.
- Canister
- A program on the Internet Computer. Timechain's canister signs for custody with a key split across the network's nodes.
- WBTC
- Wrapped Bitcoin on Solana. Timechain coins pair with it on pump.fun, so their prices are in Bitcoin.
- Bonding curve
- pump.fun's built-in market: the price rises as people buy, until the coin graduates to a pool.
- Mint
- A coin's address on Solana.
